Good to see them testing their engines to destruction to find out what makes them fall apart.

That sounded downright horrible. That's catastrophic failure, big honking metal pieces, not a leak or loss of power or overheating.
I hate to even ask this, but since you guys can actually bet over there, what's the odds on a double DNF from McLaren come Sunday at Melbourne?

They called it an 'electrical' issue. I thought the Honda sounds nasty anyway even when it's working well?

Has Merc got a real challenger this year? I'm going to go out on a stout limb and say that Ferrari will challenge them in the first half and Red Bull will challenge them in the second half. Neither will be close come Abu Dhabi. First half??? No chance. Maybe Melbourne...and if the Mercs get bad starts, again in the 2nd race. But that's about it. I'd say Redbull comes into their own by the 5th race or so and starts troubling at least 1 Merc consistently.

What's that they say about history repeating itself? I mean, they skipped through the years of dominance this time... just went right to the end results. It's the sad music at the end that gets me.

Mercedes really haven't shown any pace so to speak so far, however their laps have looked rather leisurely and they've been going for mileage more than anything it looks like. It's very clear that Mercedes can go a lot faster but I have no idea if they can go faster than Ferrari at the moment. I still expect Mercedes to win in Australia.
Ferrari have caused 1 red flag today with a reliability problem, not sure what it is yet but I expect it to be terminal, Mercedes looks decent on it's reliability which could be what wins them the title.

That stoppage by Raikkonen today sounded like an ICE issue. ICE melting issue for sure.

Dude Ferrari are most definitely not on Mercs pace. Firstly, that outfit loves showboating during winter. Secondly, how do they come from solid 3rd best last year to get on level footing with Merc, that's some incredible catching up and I wouldn't give that all passion no logic outfit that much credit. I know I'm biased as f*** against Ferrari but you know I'm right.

I know I'm biased as f*** against Ferrari but you know I'm right. From the testing pace on long runs Ferrari are matching and exceeding Mercedes, they've also been able to throw in some nice laps. Mercedes are holding back and that's very clear but how much they are holding back is an unknown. Mercedes haven't previously overperformed in testing before but Ferrari regularly do it so on that basis you'd have to say that Mercedes still look like they're ahead. In the Mercedes long runs there were a few anomalies where they did a sector comfortably faster than Ferrari, mixing the sectors up on the long runs Mercedes come out on top on potential. I really wish Mercedes had just thrown a lap out there, but I assume part of their reasoning for not doing it is so when we get to melbourne they can get more headlines by removing their sandbags. It's certainly made me really excited for Melbourne!!!

The more interesting question is can the Bulls get some help from a few more ponies to come out ahead of Ferrari at the end of the season.
But to get the most apt comparison I think we need to compare Ferrari with Red Bull, here are both Raikkonen's and Verstappen's race sims their second stint both with Soft compound.
Raikkonen Soft Stint 1:25.9, 1:24.1, 1:24.8, 1:24.7, 1:24.7, 1:24.6, 1:25.0, 1:24.7, 1:24.7, 1:24.1, 1:25.0, 1:24.8, 1:24.7, 1:24.5, 1:24.3, 1:24.1
Verstappen Soft stint - 1:24.7, 1:24.9, 1:25.6, 1:25.2, 1:25.4, 1:25.5, 1:25.4, 1:25.9, 1:25.6 and 1:25.7

Lewis said this today.....
LH:"Driving today, the time you saw was the time I could do, I didn't feel like I left anything out there or I could have gone any faster."
He's also said he's looking forward to close competition with the Bulls and Ferrari's.
