So not much going on in this race, Its pretty spread out, although the first race at Melbourne has always been that way.
Also fair to say that overtaking difficult, which we all knew was going to happen, even Stroll in a superior Wlliams on Ultras couldn't pass a lackluster Sauber on the harder softs, that was telling IMO, even if it is Melbourne.

Hope Mercedes realize their strategist with those elliptical circles in front of his face can't dictate strategy as he wills from now on, this car isn't 1.5s faster than everyone else.

I don't think Mercedes made a mistake in calling Lewis in right then.... they made a mistake on underestimating how long the others would stay out for. Lewis was a full second faster than Seb on his first full soft tyre lap and would have had a comfortable lead if Max had pitted 3 laps earlier

So can we safely say overtaking will be down this year?
Or is it just the Merc being shit at following as it always has been.

Seb's inlap was a little average, it shouldn't of been that close, that was really tight. Ferrari would of had their hearts in their mouths.

Rookie mistake, they should've told Lewis to suck it up and keep it on track another 2 laps until they get 6-7s at least to the next very quick car, not 3-4. Ferrari kept their cool this time and let Mercedes piss their pants all on their own.

yeah, it was a rookie mistake, but I don't think they believed everyone was going to go another 7 laps. 3 laps was fine, lewis had decent air in front and could still have increased his lead. Seb's in lap didn't matter, Lewis had been going faster each lap till he got to Max, so I don't buy this "overcut is the way" BS

Can we get a 2 lap safety car now? With a 3 lap sprint to the end?

They put their fate into others doing what they believed. I don't believe in the overcut either, this was just Mercedes screwing it up with a panicked decision.
