Pascal definitely has the talent and potential to really go far in F1, I think he is actually better than someone like Ocon IMO but yeah... yet his F1 career hasn't flourished. There is nothing much more he can't do on track so its must be off track issues perhaps.

He seems to have an affinity for high speed low downforce circuits.

If I were a team boss of any midfield/top team I'd be seriously gunning for Sergio Perez's quiet yet extremely talented teammate.

My main reasoning for the idea of Pascal to Force India and Perez to Williams was dependent on how much influence Mercedes want to use to keep him in F1. The head says that Perez will stay at Force India, but the heart pushes for the move If Perez stays and Pascal is out of F1, I don't think Williams should put De Ristsa in the car for 2018. Sure, he came to grips with the car quickly, but he did nothing special on track. GP3 drivers with less F1 experience gave a much better showing at the test than he did in the race which, given his position and lack of cars around him, was basically a test. No, I think if Perez isn't available then Massa will probably get 1 more year. With so many drivers on the market next year, they'll keep the seat "warm". I know Ericsson is backed by Longbow, but given the level of interest Ferrari is showing in making a "Junior" team, I dare say that a little financial lubrication can persuade a Finance company that it would be better to use Ferrari drivers. And by little, I mean more than enough to cover what they invest in Marcus! Let's not forget, Ferrari want rock solid partnerships in place before the next concord agreement negotiation to cement their "bonus" payments. It's worth outlaying $10-20+ million for a 2 year Giovinazzi seat at Sauber if it means they can keep the lions share of their "loyalty" payment.

Perez would suck Magnusen's balls for the Kimi seat at Ferrari.

I updated the first post with what we know now (Italy). Right now as it stands, and if certain drivers are only given 1 year contracts for next year, the following seats open up for 2019: Mercedes - 2 seats Red Bull - 2 seats Ferrari - 1 seat Torro Rosso - 2 seats Renault - 1 seat Haas - 1 seat McLaren - 2 seats Sauber - ? Williams - 1 seat Force India - 2 seats That's going to make a LOT of drivers do a LOT of crazy stuff to impress by Britain 2018!

This will be an interesting next two weeks. By Singapore we may have confirmed for 2018 :
McLanren Renault Toro Rosso Honda Sauber Alfa Romeo.
Which may mean :
Sainz to Renault Gasly to Toro Rosso (driving Honda powered in Super Formula now) Leclerc to Sauber
I worry for Williams who will be available for Massa's seat.
If Sainz goes out on loan to Renault, Red Bull get him in a better car as they may need him when eventually one of Verstappen or Ricciardo makes their way out in 2019.

Renault next year will move into a competitor for 3rd in the WCC. I fear it will be Force India's toughest task. Let's see.

I get back from the gym and everything in the rags has exploded with news of Sainz to Renault as soon as the Malaysian GP! Why's that? Well, because Honda is signing a prenuptial agreement with Toro Rosso and Renault is taking the empty PU stop in the back of the McLaren.
This is going to cause a lot of dominoes to tip over in the rest of the driver market as well. Apparently the rumor of the Toro Rosso Honda deal means that Honda will be bringing in their GP2 driver Nobuharu Matsushita and he'll participate in FP1 sessions with Toro Rosso.
Holy sweet and sour Jesus.

If all of that happens, that means Pierre Gasly will not be in F1 next year. RB needs Kvyat for the russian market.

Gasly is a RBR driver, so it would make sense if they dump Kyvat for Gasly. Matsushita needs to finsh in the top 3 of F2 this season to have enough points for a super license to race F1 in 2018. Honda can apply for an exemption, but Matsushita is actually signed as a McLaren development driver not Honda. Likewise, Nyck De Vries is a McLaren development driver. He only needs to finish top 5 in F2 to qualify for a super license. You want a Honda driver who could bring a name and experience to Torro Rosso? Look for Rossi or Bourdais to return to F1 from Indycar! I won't even joke about a JB cameo season for Honda!! Leclerc to Sauber is pretty much 100% certain. The only question is will Ferrari offer enough "support" to get Gio in for Marcus and keep the backers happy. Gio has another 3 FP1 outings at Haas this year (Ferrari asked nicely), so there is still plenty of support for him from Italy.

Thought he'd get a one year. He's deserved that. But I reckon Merc will be on the look out for a Lewis replacement ( for the future) so don't want to tie anyone up long term.
Well! It's all happenning!

Yeah I saw that and updated the front page. It also makes 2018 "silly season" VERY VERY interesting with only Vettel currently under contract for 2019!. As it stands: Team | 2018 | 2019 | Mercedes | Hamilton & Bottas | NONE | Ferrari | Vettel & Raikkenon | Vettel | Red Bull Racing | Ricciardo & Verstappen | NONE | Torro Rosso |
| NONE | Williams | Stroll | NONE | McLaren | Alonso & Vandoorne | Option on Vandoorne | Renault | Hulkenberg | Option on Hulkenberg | Haas | Grosjean & Magnussen | Option on Magnussen | Force India | Ocon | Option on Ocon | Sauber |
| NONE |

With Carlos to Renault on a "loan" deal, that stiches up the 2nd Renault seat but makes Torro Rosso interesting. Gasly is almost a shoo-in, he's a RBR driver and has been groomed to join F1. But for seat #2, do they stick another RBR junior or does Honda have a driver they want to represent their brand? The ONLY Japanese driver linked with Honda in any way, and with enough points for a Super License is our old mate Sato!
