So the lap record is 1:32.239 set by Michael in 2004 and the fastest lap last year was Nico at 1:40.402, there is no way they will get close to the record this year but I'm curious to see how much quicker the fastest lap is this year...and by whom! My prediction for fastest lap: Lewis @ 1:37.960 Anyone else want to guess?

I think you're in a good ballpark there. Haven't had a good side by side comparison yet as to the capabilities given the extreme weather in Malaysia and the rain in Melbourne. 2.5~3 seconds will be a general pick for the year.

It would be fun to have something on here where before each race we could all predict pole time, fastest lap and the top three finishers and after the race see who was the closest. (I'm new so forgive me if there already is such a thing)

No there isn't such a thing, and it's a good idea! Where should we put it? In the games section? I'm going to have a think and post my time tomorrow.

I see there is a pool on that gaming section, I made my picks. You can make them after qualifying if you want... that's when most of us do ours.

IE when submissions have to be made by ( I'd suggest, since it's anout pace at that track that it's before first practice, but up to you) and we'll post our guesses in there. Edit: another thought, say in the rules if it's fastest race lap, or fastest lap over the whole weekend.

I see there is a pool on that gaming section, I made my picks. You can make your predictions even minutes before the lights go out since things could change drastically from now till 5 minutes before the GP start. Just a tip. Or you can also PM one of the hosts (WB or Ryry) your predictions in case the software fails (which shouldn't happen but just in case).

Yup, I usually do mine fairly late on because sometimes like with Singapore last year someone pulls out or has problems just before they go racing. Nico Rosberg had severe technical problems which would have broken my results but luckily I removed him.

Its gotta be fastest lap during the race to be significant as far as cars getting quicker. Last years even the free practice times were quicker than the race fastest lap as it was a wet quali.
However if Ry means the best lap of the weekend, then with McLaren fitting a part upside down or Sauber on fumes in FP they would be hard pressed to get near that IMO
But if Ry means fastest lap of the race a full 4 seconds of last year thats very brave
especially with the new fuel flow regs hehe

Feel a bit dysfuntional checking the weekend weather at Shanghai before checking on my own weekend weather.

Welp... first timed lap, green track Nico Rosberg with a 1:40.052. Maybe time to rethink things a bit.

Welp... first timed lap, green track Nico Rosberg with a 1:40.052. Maybe time to rethink things a bit. The others aren't getting close on the mediums, teams can match Mercedes in sector 1 but in S2 and S3 they're like half a second faster in each. Hamilton showed based on his first sector and second sector that there is a further 3 tenths in their car. 1.3 seconds faster based on first set of medium runs. (1:40.052) EDIT: Minor adjustments and now we're onto the second set of medium tyres and Hamilton throws in a 1:39.033, Rosberg throws in 1:39.5 on their first laps, Raikkonen only manages to do a 1:40.6 on his first lap, Vettel only manages a 1:40.5 (about 15 mins later) so a gap of 1.5 seconds. Looks like Mercedes are back to Australia form. EDIT#2: A cleaned up track and it's rubbered in a bit, Vettel pitted for a while then came back out on used tyres and threw in a 1:40.1 which is still 1.1 seconds slower than Hamilton. Based on how Vettels car was moving it looked like a reletivley slow lap and looking their team principles face they have no chance.

Too early but Merc probably cranked up the engine again, hope to see destroyed Ferrari faces this weekend.
