The road to greatness is a bumpy one. That's all it is for Rosberg. Hamilton will learn this lesson at the end of the season! Welcome! I have to disagree with you. Plus look at the first lap Hamilton kept close and had three attempts only to have it ruined by the safety car. He then dropped back to 2.5 seconds within 2 laps and stayed there for a while, dropped back even further and saved tyres to try and attack and overtake by closing in and overtaking while Rosberg was in the pits. Hamilton made up the ground he lost in the pits and just look at the end of his first stint he brought a 4.6 second gap down to 1.2 seconds in 6 laps but his pit stop was slow and the undercut was working for everyone so it was obvious he would not get ahead. Finished 2 seconds behind his teammate on a track that Rosberg is better at. Rosberg has been constantly and comfortably faster in the middle sector all weekend. Both drivers have tracks where they are constantly on top, mostly in Hamilton's favour

Hi I'm new on here. I'd say I'm a Hamilton fan but watching him recently I'd say if he doesn't get out in front with clean air ahead of him then he can't keep the pace with rosberg. It was proven today in Austria. He does do well to get himself in front but if he doesn't do it early on then he goes to pot. Not saying he's a bad driver. Just maybe not as dominant as everyone thinks. I think Rosberg realises that now and the confidence he gets from it will chip away at Hamilton's points. It was proven today was it? and now Rosberg suddenly has the confidence and hence the upper hand to over turn the reality of never once having beaten Hamilton over a season. Nah, I will need some more facts from you to prevent your premise continuing to look a touch unfounded! Lets say he is not as dominant as everyone thinks (Rosberg 2 vs 5, instead of 0 - 7), perhaps Nico will march into the AMG boardroom and command a w2age increase on the back of this revelatory race? But you have a great point in that Lewis 'does do well to get in front but if he doesnt he goes to pot' - we saw this clearly in 2014 when Lewis started behind Nico more than half the time and 'went to pot' on the way to clinching his second WDC. Nico really handed out a good spanking?

Hi Cookin,
'So last season' would be a fitting way to describe your evaluation of Rosberg and Hamilton, as it is exactly that. A lot has changed in F1 to make this season a whole new ball game.
This season (as opposed to previous seasons where we have seen a calm, collected Hamilton) we have seen him flustered on the radio ("bring me in, bring me in, oops just lost a 27 second lead, better knock this sign over"), throwing the car off the track a hell of a lot more, and locking up more. Rosberg has been able to take advantage of these multiple errors and kept a steady frame of mind, which he failed to do so much last season.
With this confidence boost and Hamilton off his game, I think Rosberg is in with a real shot.

Curious to know who you think it is. I'm going with Allan McNish.

Depends who you think I am. I'll give you a massive clue, I'm not Allan McNish. Narrows it down. There's probably a few of them out there.

Interesting point! but hold on, this season has seen Lewis at his most effective, so it kinda goes against your position. If he has become less effective, by 'multiple errors' and 'flustered on the radio' and 'locking up more ' and 'knocking signs over' yet is 38 points (yup 38) ahead of Rosberg relative to this point last season, has lead the WDC from the start, got a payrise, has the WDC trophy stuck to his fridge door, has a secure seat for longer than Nico(or any other driver on the grid)...... then in this case I am very sure that his sudden descent into 'mental weakness' is working for him. I mean if he has got more 'mentally weaker' than last year - as you interestingly suggest then it must be that he prefers to be struggling - in which case, as you point out, Nicos new 'confidence' and 'prowess' will cure his 'mental weakness' and get him performing at his peak again But hold on..that seems to be a perfect circle, maybe on of them mea culpa circles?

Natny are you who I think you are? hmmmn, I wonder who your doppelganger candidate could be. Gary Anderson would be my guess. Whatever its gonna be fun though to have a Natny on board, I am sure he will provide some interesting debate as he has some unique insights so far. A forum is not complete without such good insights, it gives a boost to the fun available, even if some can overdose on it. Fun should never be boycotted and good regular spankings all around make for some jolly times

I agree. Every loves a good spanking from time to time. Just ask Lewis after Austria. I bet his ass was redder than a german Max Mosely.
Again, last season is exactly that. The fact is that right now there is not much difference in points and Rosberg is carrying mental momentum.

The fact is that right now there is not much difference in points and Rosberg is carrying mental momentum. Last season there was a much bigger difference in points (Nico was 28 ahead and is now 10 behind) and Nico was carrying the most mental momentum, having just signed a new contract extension, leading his team mate by 28 points and having a certain type of F1 follower actually giving him the benefit of doubt for the WDC (not the bookies tho) - so this fact of yours seems to be as tangible as a monkey producing an amateur drama societies Shakespearean repertoire by blindly pressing keys on a keyboard whilst connected to the internet. However we do know that many group battered primates, when not engaged in spanking the monkey can revert to 'I can typing' A classic example of this was when our own beloved RC battered a primate senseless on the topic of Hamiltons clutch affected by a hangover caused by his jetsetting

How did Hamilton get spanked?
Hamilton put the pressure on Rosberg in qualifying by setting the fastest lap on the first runs in Q3, he obviously thought out side the box or had the trick up his sleeve knowing early on that the thing you needed to do was do an extra warm up lap before doing your lap, the pressure worked because ultimately it made Rosberg push too much and he put his tyres onto the astroturf losing tyre temperature and getting them damp making him go off.
He made two minor mistakes during the race but ultimately could keep the same pace as Rosberg, the first mistake was just a poor start, the second was running over the white line on pit exit.
If the team pulled him in lap after Rosberg pitted he could have challenged but for some reason they kept him out which was stupid.
4.6 down to 1.2 in 6 laps is pretty obvious what he was trying. After that failed because of staying out and a poor pit stop he needed to make up 3 seconds again and then getting a 5 second penalty he needed to get 5 seconds ahead of Rosberg which was going to be pretty much impossible.
He settled for 2nd, that's not spanked at all. Especially when Rosberg should of had a better race pace because he is better at that track, as noted before about decor l sector 2.

yup, finishing in second 2.2 secs behind is what counts as a spanking when one has overdosed on 'interesting' declarations like Ferrari participating in LMP1 and dominating by using ICE's without sparkplugs running on algae that actually reverse fossil fuel carbon emissions and save the planet whilst getting an extra 80 mill handout from the other teams to finish 4th. Right after employing Italians only for a super national pride team, yet sacking the top Italian engineer of his generation in favour of a subsequently sacked Mclaren reject, and ofcourse sacking and re hiring the same lame driver twice and the same retirement age designer FOUR TIMES over And how Ricciardo is the TP's number one choice (right after Kyviat hands back his arse), and ofcourse the merits of boycotting certain F1 drivers for Nascar brand giants oh what stellar fun!

Well with regards to qualifying, Rosberg's pace was much faster on the lap he spun so would have gone pole if it wasn't for that spin.
I've obviously struck a nerve with you guys. Truth hurts I guess but please try not to get upset. I'm sure he's good at other things. Jockey, nascar (those guys only have to worry about turning one way which might be easier), model for baby gap.
2 championships is a fantastic result for someone like Hamilton. He should be incredibly proud but now move on and let the experts do their thing.
Like I've always said, I like the guy, he is a friendly chap but I just don't thing he has the minerals.

It's interesting Natny, that you'd join us and question Lewis Hamilton in the very first race of the season when he was outpaced by Rosberg...while discounting all the race before this, and saying Lewis is "good, but not as good as we thought"...and then saying he might be good at other things like jockeying and NASCAR and has no minerals. Not much contradictions going on there. Oh and yes, you're a "Hamilton fan" as you said so in the first post...fortunately you don't dislike the guy, I wonder what sort of posts we'd be seeing from you then! Do stick by your words thus far though, and we'll continue this interesting debate and viewpoints as the season progresses!

There was no race at the front with Rosberg controlling the pace and providing an impressive tonking to his much higher paid teammate. The result of the Austrian GP though does hold some interest for the season as a whole. The overall wdc is tighting up with Rosberg winning three of the last four and closing the gap by 17 points. While Rosberg is improving his form Hamilton seems to be losing some of his. Again the issue of his travels effecting his work was raised in Austria and where Hamilton tried his best to laugh this off the results indicate otherwise. Spin in qually, bad start, mental lapse in the pit exit and being off pace in general. Ok whichever moron had the delusion to say that rubbish...I hope never finds his way to this forum lol

Dont have to look too far to find the same arguments. Its been that way for years, usually after Hamilton has a bad free practice or his engine catches fire.
The phenomena is generally known as the SSDA effect, but in boosted cases it is the SADS effect (one of the initials stands for Same, another stands for Different)
Keep it up! Welcome to the forum!!!

Not really sure what most of your last message was talking about as it was pretty much all abbreviated. Nevertheless, happy to be here. Always enjoy a bit of friendly banter. Looking forward to opening my "I told u so" thread after Silverstone. :-)
