Track LayoutSilverstoneLike so many of England's racing circuits, Silverstone started life as an aerodrome. When the Second World War ended in 1945, England's other two circuits, Donington Park and the legendary Brooklands, had fallen into disrepair. And so it was that the outer taxiways and interconnecting runways of Silverstone became adopted by the Royal Automobile Club as the home for the British Grand Prix in 1948. The circuit was fast and challenging and in 1949 the shape was formed that remains the basis of the track to this day.
When the Formula One World Championship was incepted in 1950, Silverstone held the very first round, won by Guiseppe Farina in an Alfa Romeo. In 1951 the British Racing Drivers' Club (BRDC) was handed the lease by the RAC, and huge modifications were made. The pits were moved to the straight between Woodcote and Copse, from the Farm straight where they had originally been, and a short circuit was built within the larger circuit, cutting from Becketts corner to Woodcote.
From 1955 the British Grand Prix swapped venues between Aintree and Silverstone, but with the advent of the 1960s, Aintree fell out of favour and the race was switched between Silverstone and Brands Hatch.
In 1971 the British Racing Drivers' Club (BRDC) bought the entire 720 acre plot on which Silverstone sits and went about redeveloping the track. New pits were built and a chicane was erected at Woodcote which provided close finishes and great overtaking opportunities.
In 1987, with speeds reaching astounding levels, a corner was built before Woodcote, and in 1992 a new complex of corners was created between Farm and Woodcote. And in recent years various upgrades have been made to the track's facilities. A racing school now exists at the circuit and with government funding a new bypass has been built, greatly improving access to the once notoriously out-of-the-way venue.
In 2010 came another major change to the circuit's Formula One layout, designed to further improve the venue for spectators and provide an even greater driver challenge. The new infield layout juts right at the reworked Abbey bend before heading into the new Arena complex of turns. This takes drivers on to the main straight of Silverstone’s National circuit, before rejoining the previous Grand Prix layout at Brooklands.

I don't know why but I get the feeling Lewis needs the win here in Silverstone. If Nico manages to nick another one (bad clutch/bad stop/whatever) all the haters and hater pundits are going to do their best to knock Lewis down in public. You can almost feel them getting ready with the ammunition reloads.

It's funny, Sky ran a story the other day and it seems like it reached some type of tipping point. as 80% of the comments were bashing on Sky for being such media sensationalistic pricks going out of their way to sensationalize the fact that Lewis didn't attend the post Austria testing, but not mentioning that a lot of other drivers didn't attend either. Nor the fact that he didn't attend because of British National responsibilities...
It was actually weird to read through.

It's funny, Sky ran a story the other day and it seems like it reached some type of tipping point. as 80% of the comments were bashing on Sky ....... They ran an article today that started by saying "enough negativity and bashing of F1, here are 25 reasons F1 is great". It then went on to list 25 lame reasons. Kind of aimed at the Sun Reader level (for non UK members - The Sun is gutter press filled with sensational headlines and very little content). The comments of that arrival again basically just bashed SkyF1 saying how they were hypocrites and it was their shit reporting such as the one WB quotes above, that have helped destroy the sport. Fair play to sky sport F1 though, they still published all the comments - as they all get reviewed before being published

I was surprised at the depths to which Sky seem to have fallen when i saw the headline 'Hamilton told off by the Queen' - and it wasnt even tongue in cheek or jokey.
Their 'news breaking' report was basically derived from Lewis himself mentioning on the Norton show that the Queen pointed out the correct etiquette for something. That is on par with the Sun newspaper or thejudge13

Yeah I watched the Nirton show. lewis said he was seated by the queen and said something to her, and she said ...'we talk to people the other side of us first, then we talk to each other' which they did. The queen then spent the rest of the meal chatting to Lewis. Maybe Sky should print the whole story, not just the bits that suit their agenda. Or they could swing the other way like this.... ' Queen deals swiftly with protocol To enjoy rest of evening chatting to Lewis'
Or a step further yet again
' queen bedazzled by Lewis' Or ' Queen monopolisesLewis at Palace meal'
All those options are as valid as the one Sky chose to go with. Sky. Pathetic!

Lewis was out partying with the Queen? No wonder he is shit at F1 - he should concentrate on his F1 career and be more focusd like Jensun....

Well I was thinking maybe shorts, and the Union Jack bikini of course.
THIS WEEKEND IS GONNA BE MEGA!!!!!!!!!!!
On the video that Ang posted, Lewis said he'd been working on the clutch but said you never know if you've made the right choices. I really really really hope that he and his engineer have made the right choices. ( praying smilie)

Doesn't matter, this is Silverstone. Hammertime vibes were strong enough to break a gearbox last time around.

Lewis was 0.5 faster than Rosberg on his first timed lap, unfortunately that's the only pointer we have before Rosberg had a hydraulic issue.
Force India's car at the start of the session appears to be pretty good, still easily a midfield Q3 scraping team. Their aero package looks pretty sweet I love the nose of the car and really hope it works better than expected taking them into being the 4th best car just behind Williams.

Very impressive so far from Toro Rosso, will be interesting to see how fast they are through out the weekend.
I'm guessing I'm going to see lots of "Rosberg faster than Hamilton after only 2 laps" but they aren't taking into account the rubber going down which is significant in practice 1 and 2 and also track temperatures were better. So he we expected to be very very close if not ahead.
Still, very good from Rosberg to come out and better Hamilton.
Mercedes over 1.1 seconds ahead of Toro Rosso, 1.2 ahead of Ferrari... Looks like this is going to be one of their best tracks. (Both Mercedes and Toro Rossi)
