The silly season just opened up a seat in the W-08.

Pascal hasn't signed with anyone for next season has he? No, so the "plan" may have been in from the get go.

COINCIDENCE I DONT THINK SO! Lewis keeps talking about this book he wants to write about 2016, I can't wait to see what he says about his teammates "shock" retirement!

I mean after everything is said and done, they didn't have Lewis crash in order to hand Nico a win. It's not on that level of slime, but Brawn did say he doesn't trust Toto.

If that was the "plan" then it would have been easy enough to pull off. Other teams avoided Pascal because the rumor mill had it that he had too much attitude and refused to listen. You can do that when you're one of the top drivers in the sport, not when you're a nobody in the cellar team. Would love to know where the "leak" about that came from!

OPEN SEATS Mercedes - 1 seat Sauber - 1 seat Manor - 2 seats
DRIVER POOL Retired (but a chance at a Merc seat could change that) - Massa, Button Current unsigned F1 drivers - Wherlein, Haryanto, Nasar, Gutierrez Recent F1 drivers still racing - Chilton, Stevens, Rossi, Merhi Test Drivers - Sirotkin, Gasly, Giovinazzi
There are a raft of former F1 drivers in Formula E, but they would require a contract buyout to move over. Would love to see another Indy driver move over, Pagenaud for example! Or maybe a DTM driver with past F1 connections... (Di Resta or Paffett)

Alonso would be nice.
I think Hamilton would have a harder time beating him than before. Alonso must be soooo hungry for another title. He must be starving.

He's gonna screw up so many times and make a fool of himself. The mentality at front is totally different, the pressure is different. He's been messing about as a midfielder these past few years, suddenly at the very sharp end (and he's past his prime)....any remaining legacy is going to be shattered to pieces. I hope he joins Merc...because I'm 100% sure this is what's going to happen.

Looks like Alonso couldn't find the money or the cojones to get out of his contract.

I'm wondering if the Paddy Lowe deal and Bottas and the Mercedes PU and perhaps Werhlein are all involved in the move. Interesting to see if there is any grand connection between them all. EDIT: Actually it would appear as if a decision has already been reached. Video Message from Lewis & Toto

I know names like Alonso and Vettle and Bottas have been thrown around the media, but how about a young disgruntled RBR family driver in Kvyat? He's quick, but not so quick to threaten Lewis. He's aggresive, mainly towards Vettel which is OK. He has a MASSVIE axe to grind against RBR and Max, no matter what is said publicly. Having been shafted mid-season, I'm sure he'd have no issue giving it in return.
Otherwise, we have little gems like: Dec.13 - Pastor Maldonado says he is working on his return to formula one. Dec.5 - Valentino Rossi says Wolff 'has my number'
We all know it's almost certain to be Pascal, but I'd love to see them do something different.

Whoa I would love that! Kvyat would definitely be motivated and he can make life difficult for Lewis I bet. A great option IMO.
