There's a movement building on the various F1 sites to gift Palmer with his very own Driver of the Day award for the Japan award as his going away present. I ask, how can you not do your part?

I just got up, so I can't figure out why Bottas starts 6th instead of 7th and Kimi is 10th instead of 11th?

Bottas qualified 2nd Kimi was 6th Alonso was 10th Alonso's penalty was applied first, so he drops to 45th Bottas drops to 7th Kimi drops to 11th. The everything compresses and the gaps are removed, so: 3rd -> 2nd 4th -> 3rd 5th -> 4th 6th -> 7th etc.. The big winner is Vandoorne who moves from 11th -> 9th as 2 gaps were right ahead of him. He's the only driver to gain 2 places

I still don't get it. No one got penalized ahead of Bottas so how does the field 'compress' ahead of him? EDIT It shows on espn that Bottas is indeed starting 7th.

I can't see how Hamilton can lose the WDC, he could retire from a race and even take a 20 place grid penalty if he wanted. He might well take a penalty at the next race for a new engine because he was getting power unit vibrations towards the end of this race so looks like he only just finished.
Hamilton got held up quite a lot right at the end of the race by Alonso but to be fair; Alonso then did the same to Verstappen. It was a good call by horner allowing Max to go full beans but telling him to be careful not to take out Hamilton.
Bottas really didn't impress me again... likewise Raikkonen.
Alonso driving fantastically again, I can't wait until McLaren use the Renault engine as I expect Renault to improve a lot for next year and I want to see Alonso up the front but I hope for McLaren's sake that Honda have just as many issues next year (I don't think they will).

It's interesting how Hamilton gets on really well with native English speaking drivers, he used to get on really well with Button & Webber but he also gets on really well with Palmer & Riccardio, Hamilton also gets on well with Verstappen; wonder if that's because he's still a kid or because of Riccardio's English influence. He also gets on well with Bottas maybe because he's quiet and shy but also calm & relaxed.

- Vandoorne set the fastest 1st sector of any driver during the race, shows how good the McLaren chassis is. - Massa was slower than one of the Saubers in sector 3... he was also pretty damn slow in sector 1 and sector 2. Shows how poor Massa is performing. - Bottas was decently fast in his final stint but was slow in his first stint however it's pretty clear that it's fairly close between Ferrari & Mercedes in race pace. - Palmer & Gasly set some great sector times during the race. - Hamilton was cruising most of the race not really pushing his engine or anything too much. - Ferrari were again a very close 2nd in race pace. - Red Bull were a comfortable 3rd fastest. - Force India set their fastest lap time on lap 23... that's pretty impressive and I'm sure they could have gone faster. Not sure why Ocon's lap time is slower. - Hass are still probably the 2nd worst team but their gambles and differences in race strategy helps them get some decent results through the year. The battle for the 4th best team is pretty close really, a fight between Toro Rosso, Renault, McLaren, Force India and Williams. Rosberg was asked "Why is Robert Kubica the best candidate out of Massa, Di Resta, Wehrlein, or Palmer?" to which he replied with "Because he's the quickest of them all", pretty interesting to hear that come from Rosberg really. Great little interview here with Ric & Ves on Sky: streamable.com/d5k23

This has pretty much become the image for Ferrari's 2017 season. Je suis le garçon Ferrari en train de pleurer.

Anyone think Mercedes and Ferrari would now be 100% focused on 2018 development already? Or else Redbull might get the jump on them.
Lewis can just target podiums in the remaining races and cruise it. And both teams know this.
