He ran SS for 11 laps total today... around half that over the drivers above him. Interesting, didn't notice because I was streaming and on a conference call at the same time... his fastest lap is listed as being on Soft, what went on? Yellow and red flags. He ran a 5 lap and a 6 lap stint on the same set.

So is Lewis in trouble? He stormed this track last year till he hit the wall, way ahead of everyone. Is he having trouble finding the right set up, that sweet spot? It's happened a couple of times this year. Or is he experimenting with things? What d'you think?

FP3 will definitely tell us if Lewis in trouble.

I splept late, never wake up at 8:30 on a weekend. Oh glorious sleep.
Anyway, quite an eventful FP3! Mercedes seem to be on top of their tire issues but they still don't look at good as the Red Bulls and Ferrari. This is going to be a crap shoot for pole for realz yo.

EDIT, Verstappen okay for Q, Palmer won't take Q.

Hamilton absolutely dominated that qualifying session, if Daniel hadn't have crashed in Q3 I think Hamilton could have gone even faster.
Ferrari & Red Bull over a second slower... Sure this is a power track but I wouldn't be all too surprised if Ferrari have changed something on their car relating to the reemergence of oil burn allegations.
Verstappen impressively fast at this track, he had Daniel covered.
Wherlein again smashing the shit out of Erricson.
Kvyat in Q1 comfortably faster than Sainz, continued to hold his advantage and ended up faster.
Vettel surely must be a bit down on outright engine performance on the older engine because Raikkonen seemed to have Vettel under control.

Wow Just wow. Scary thing is, the abandoned lap before the red was 0.3s faster through Sector 1. He really could have hit a 1:40.000 A shame Max couldn't pip Vettel, got done by 0.038! This is going to be a good race

Well, looks like Mercedes is able to cheat with that burning oil thinggie they do. What a lap, and like dogued says, there was still more left in it. Qualifying of late has been really hot. Red Bull has made some gains, no new PU but apparently getting some extra umph from their fuel formula. Vettel would have probably gotten 3rd were it not for his having to revert to the old PU, hope it lasts otherwise we may see a massive points swing. No one deserves to lose a championship on engine failures but Ferrari are going to struggle the second half of the season, clearly they traded some reliability to gain their power. Mercedes power rounding up the last half of the grid, Ricciardo being out driven this weekend by Max guess trying to get as much as he possibly could out of it. Enjoyable qualifying, now I go to the gym, work out some of this energy! I'll create the pools thread once I'm back.

Ok, did I miss something? Everyone is talking about Vettel using an old PU. Are they referring to the ICE, because if that's the case then I have NO sympathy. Mercedes and Ferrari have both used 2 ICE elements, so no advantage to be found unless you say Hamilton was "unlucky" using an "old" ICE when Vettel won in Monaco

Well done to Lewis, another pole to the tally. Seems Merc have made good progress with their 'diva' car.
Disappointed with Dan's Quali, Max has had Dan pretty well cover all weekend and all throughout the year TBH despite Dan's podiums in the last 3 races Starting to become common practice with Max outpacing Daniel. I fear Dan could be going down a similar path to a former Australian Red Bull driver.

Also Stroll has had a good weekend so far and out Qualified Massa which is worth noting.

Well I need some major luck for my tipping! Vettel has to DNF and Occon to p3 With an old engine, he may go the Bottas route where it gets him 3/4 of the way. This is all power so they either turn it down which in this track is as good as out of the points or they keep it up and risk blowing it.

One last note, taking the curb out in turn 8 really helped. It was crazy before, glad they listened to the drivers.
